Summer is the most challenging season for shrimp farmers. Every summer, the temperature keeps rising, which is a high disease incidence of shrimp culture. Shade fabric can play a role in reducing water temperature and blocking the sunlight. Thus, it effectively maintains water quality stability and minimizes shrimp stress. 

The shrimp farmers are familiar with building and using a shade fabric on top of the pond. But there are still some issues that need to be given more attention.

What problem exists in shrimp cultivation?

As consumer demand for protein is increasing, obtaining protein from aquaculture is becoming an increasingly important way. Nowadays, shrimp farming is considered to provide high-quality protein and can bring significant profits to farmers.

But in summer, the highest water temperature can reach 35 ℃ in shrimp ponds. The too-high water temperature will significantly change the water quality and cause a lack of oxygen in the pond.

In the face of unexpected temperature change and increasing disease problems, traditional farming models are no longer as effective as they used to be. As a result, some advanced models have been born, bringing superior solutions to the shrimp farming industry.

Among them, the application of shade nets perfectly solves the problem of high water temperature fluctuation and pond water stratification.

What is the shade fabric for shrimp farming?

To meet the shrimp's demand for cooling, farmers often build shade fabric on their ponds. Here we are sharing a kind of shade netting that farmers often use. This netting is made of polyethylene (HDPE) and knitted by a warp knitting machine. These strong nets are durable, UV-resistant, tear-resistant, and well-strapped to block windy, rain, or other conditions.

The common colors include black, green, blue, or gray (35%-90% shading rate). The shrimp farmers in different regions should choose a suitable shade net according to the local climate and practical use.

In the early stages of farming, shrimp farmers usually use 70%-80% shade fabric to block the sunlight. In the middle and late stages, 50%-60% shade fabric is ideal to ensure the shrimps grow with sufficient light. At different stages of shrimp growth, choosing the suitable type of shade netting can help farmers save on input costs and reduce farming risks.

Why use shade fabric in shrimp aquaculture?

1. Control Water Temperature

Long-term high temperature in aquaculture water can easily lead to shrimp diseases, no feed intake, lower vitality, slow growth rate, etc. Shading net can minimize the effects of the natural environment. It reduced water temperature by 2~3℃ in hot weather, stabilize water PH and quality, and avoid water stratification.

2. Reduce Disease Incidence

Sunshade net could decrease shrimp stress due to high temperatures, promote shrimp feeding rate, and reduce disease incidence. Sun shade net also avoids disease transmission, stop birds or pests from polluting aquaculture water. Many shrimp farmers have practiced this model to reduce the spread of disease by 70%.

In shrimp farming, shade fabric can help farmers save work time and labor costs and reduce the risk of farming.  It is suggested that the majority of farmers should actively cover shade fabric to stabilize the overall water quality and create a safe and stable growth environment for shrimps.
